The 'Skyfall' actress will star alongside Jude Law in the Sky Atlantic and HBO drama series, which will be told over six episodes split in two halves.

Cameron Roach, director of drama at Sky Studios, said: "We are thrilled Naomie is joining the cast of 'Third Day', it's a real testament to the combined vision of Dennis Kelly and Felix Barrett.

"The prospect of Naomie and Jude Law, alongside an array of incredible British talent, with Philippa Lowthorpe and Marc Munden directing really demonstrates the quality and ambition of this distinctive, original drama."

Marc will helm the first trio of episodes, entitled Summer, which will see Sam - played by Jude - rock up on a mysterious island off the British coast on which lives a group of islanders intent on preserving the land mass' traditions at any cost.

Philippa will direct the second set of episodes, Winter, which will star Naomie as strong-willed Helen, an outsider who heads to the island looking for answers.

The six-part series will air on Sky Atlantic in the UK and HBO in the US.

Creator Felix Barrett, said: "Filming for 'The Third Day' has begun and it's been a remarkable experience seeing our shared vision come to life.

"We've followed both Naomie's and Philippa's careers for several years, and we are thrilled they will be joining the production."

While Naomie, 42, has been known for her movies of late, most notably her James Bond film role as Eve Moneypenny, she previously starred in children's sci-fi TV series 'The Tomorrow People' from 1992 to 1995.
