The 42-year-old actor - who is best known for playing Ryan Malloy on 'EastEnders' - has taken to social media to announce the arrival of their baby girl.

Alongside a photo of his newborn daughter, Neil wrote on Instagram: "Welcome to the world. Maria Jolene McDermott. Born Tuesday at 4.18pm. 8 pound 3. (sic)"

The soap star also heaped praise on his wife Michelle.

Neil - who already has daughter Arabella and son Roddy with Michelle - said on the photo-sharing platform: "Thank You Michelle for carrying our beautiful daughter and going through another pregnancy and all that entails. I don’t know how you do it.

"Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear DVT socks. I love you. [heart emoji]

"Thanks for all the messages. We are home, happy and safe. And Baby number 3 is thriving. And Babies number 1 and 2 adore their baby sister. (sic)"

Neil made a surprised return to 'EastEnders' earlier this year, and the actor previously admitted to relishing the experience.

Neil - who made his first appearance on the BBC soap more than a decade ago - also revealed that he was looking forward to reuniting with some of his former co-stars, including Lacey Turner and Shona McGarty.

He said at the time: "When I heard what the story was, I was really pleased that the stars aligned and I was able to revisit Ryan and set foot back on the Square.

"It was so lovely to see so many old friends and to work with Shona and Lacey again, as well as to meet and work with Ryan’s daughter, played beautifully by Lillia."
