Another new original series has been announced by Netflix, this time in the comedy genre starring both Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.

Grace and Frankie is the name of the series, as changes in their characters' marital statuses brings long-time rivals together.

Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Editor said: "Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are among the funniest and most formindable actresses ever and it's an incredible privilege to give them the opportunity to run riot on Netflix".

"The show created for them by Marta (Kauffman) and Howard (J. Morris) is warm, very funny and anything but wholesome. We can't wait."

The comedy utilises just a single camera, and focuses on nemeses Grace and Frankie who are facing the final chapter in their lives - just not in the way they expected.

When their husbands announce they're in love with one another and want to get married, the women's lives are flipped on their heads and they are - much to their upset - permanently intertwined.

Eventually though, they do discover that they have each other and develop a bond neither of them saw coming.

The 13 episodes - each 30 minutes long each - are written and created by Marta Kauffman, Howard J. Morris and Paula Weinstein, premiering on Netflix next year.

Skydance's David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross will take on roles as executive producers.
