The 74-year-old broadcaster hosted the show during its original run, and he's now offered his support to Stephen, who is presenting the long-awaited reboot.

Stephen, 46, told The Sun newspaper: "There’s just so many where I think, ‘When people see this, it’s going to be like a scene from Gogglebox’, because you just go, ‘Oh no!’.

"I tell you what, I also worried about what Noel was going to think. And then he sent a message and he just said, ‘You’re going to have the best time and you’re perfect for the job’, and so that was very humbling to hear."

Asked how he would feel if the reboot gets panned, Stephen replied: "I’ll be mortified, because it doesn’t deserve to be."

'Deal or No Deal' is set to return later this month. However, the show's prize fund has seen a significant drop.

A source recently told The Sun newspaper: "It's a strange sign of the times, but times are tough for ITV just as it is for all other companies across the country, and £100,000 is still a lot of money these days.

"Plus, 'Deal or No Deal' was never about the winnings, it was always about the game and the camaraderie between the contestants, with some happy to walks away with nothing ... or just 1p in some cases."

Despite this, Stephen previously hailed 'Deal or No Deal' as "one of the greatest shows of all time".

He said in a statement: "It looks so simple but it's an incredibly compelling game for both those playing and the viewers watching at home.

"It’s one of the greatest shows of all time and to be the new host is an honour! I can’t wait to get started."
