The 'Gangs of London' star has been cast as the guest lead, Isaac Turner, a young ambitious MP who will stop at nothing to get to the very top, for the second season of the BBC One thriller.

He said: "I’m so excited to be coming on board with 'The Capture'.

"Ben [Chanan] has written one of the freshest and most prescient scripts of recent times and I can’t wait to see what this incredible cast and crew can do with it.”

The 31-year-old actor will star opposite Holliday Grainger, 33, who has played series lead DI Rachel Carey since the show first aired in 2019.

Creator and writer Ben Chanan said: “I am thrilled to be working with Paapa Essiedu on 'The Capture' series two.

"I’ve honed the story with Paapa in mind, and there’s no actor I’d rather collaborate within bringing it to life."

Paapa - who recently starred as George Boleyn in Channel 5 historical drama 'Anne Boleyn - is joining the show along with 'Spitting Image' regular Indira Varma, 47, and Andy Nyman, 55, who made his name working with illusionist Derren Brown.

They will star alongside returning actors Ron Perlman, Ben Miles, Lia Williams, Nigel Lindsay, Cavan Clerkin and Ginny Holder.

Ben added: "I also feel incredibly lucky to be welcoming Indira Varma and Andy Nyman to the show, where they join the brilliant Holliday Grainger, Ron Perlman, Lia Williams and the cast from series one. A dream cast, across the board."

The first series of the drama focused on the clearing of a crime supposedly caught on CCTV, but the new series will feature the rise of deepfake technology, the ever-growing tension between government and Big Tech, and corruption at the heart of the British media.
