The 'Good Morning Britain' co-host recently revealed the police had been looking into the matter after an Instagram user commented on one of Piers' pictures, of him and son Spencer Morgan, saying he was "getting killed", and now Facebook have also been helping the authorities in a bid to track down the culprit.

Piers said: "I called the police and they were brilliant. They came round and spent a few hours going over all this.

"I said, 'I have no idea who this person is, but I want to go through the process of trying to find out who it is and hold them accountable to issuing a death threat.'

"I know one of the top executives at Facebook, who own Instagram, and they contacted me and agreed to speak to the police. They've been helping the police."

The 55-year-old TV presenter is determined to find out who it is because he wants to send a message to others that online death threats are not acceptable.

Speaking on 'This Morning', "I want to see how this process works. I'm doing it not for me and other high-profile people, we can take care of ourselves to a degree and can afford the security.

"My place is like Fort Knox now thanks to the police, which I'm grateful for.

"But what about regular people who everyday have to put up with this obscene stuff, like a death threat being made to them, with no ability to trace these, often, anonymous people?

"I want to find out who it is, hold them to account for it and send a message to people.

"I just think everyone has a line. I'm not having that."

Last month, Piers revealed he had reported the threats to the Metropolitan Police, who had visited his house to take a statement.

He wrote on Twitter: "I've reported these death threats to @metpoliceuk and look forward to hearing back from them. I’m also keen to hear what steps @instagram @Facebook are taking to identify the person who made the death threats on their platform & has now deleted their account. (sic)"

A Twitter user then claimed in his experience the police "do very little" when it comes to social media, writing: "Unfortunately Piers when it comes to social media the police do very little. That's what I found in Merseyside anyway. They don't have the resources or time to trace accounts (sic)"

But the 'Life Stories' host responded: "Well they’re definitely taking this seriously.. they’re round my house now taking a statement. (sic)"

Piers shared a screenshot of the vile Instagram comment via his Twitter account, adding: "Let’s see how big and tough he feels when I give him the exposure he deserves".

The threat read: "your a marked man, calling the police, big tech or beefing up security isn't going to stop us getting to you, this isn't a threat piers it's a promise, your getting killed. (sic)"

Another comment also threatened Spencer and Piers' ex, Spencer's mum Marion Shalloe.

It read: "Watch your back @spencermorgan if you don't get your dad, your getting it or your mum is (sic)"
