The former 'Good Morning Britain' presenter will interview the Labour party leader for his ITV programme next week and Piers is impressed that the 58-year-old politician has agreed to open himself up to scrutiny.

He tweeted: "BREAKING: @Keir_Starme has agreed to appear on my Life Stories show.

"We’re doing the interview next week, and it will air soon afterwards. Party leaders rarely submit themselves to such lengthy personal interviews so it should be a fascinating encounter. #LifeStories."

It will be the first interview with a party leader on 'Life Stories' since Piers, 56, interviewed Gordon Brown when he was prime minister in 2010.

The chat is expected to feature Keir speaking about his childhood in Surrey, his law career which earned him a knighthood, his family life and politics.

ITV said the hour-long interview will give a "rare and fascinating insight into the man behind the politician".

Previous guests have included Sir Captain Tom Moore, Simon Cowell, Dame Joan Collins, Sir Elton John, Spice Girl Mel B and Sir Cliff Richard.
