The 55-year-old TV presenter quit the ITV programme on Tuesday evening (09.03.21) following his views on the Duchess of Sussex's tell-all Oprah Winfrey interview, but Piers has now taken to Twitter to admit some on 'GMB' "didn't even like" him, but he fulfilled his long-held ambition of overtaking the BBC's breakfast show on his last day in the job.

He wrote: "I had one goal when I joined @GMB - beat @BBCBreakfast in the ratings.

On my last day, we did it.

That was down to the hard work & dedication of the whole team.

They don't all agree with me, some don't even like me, but we were a team..and we won.

Thanks guys. I'll miss you. (sic)"

Kate Garraway, Piers' former colleague on 'Good Morning Britain', admitted this morning (11.03.21) that the outspoken host's abrupt departure has already transformed the ITV show.

The 53-year-old presenter acknowledged that Piers fell "on the sword of free speech", but she also insisted they'll remain good friends.

Kate said on the show: "That's the thing about Piers, isn't it, he's very passionate, he does fly kites and have debates but it always comes from a place of authenticity. He always believes in what he says. And he's left.

"He's decided to quit and as he put it himself, fall on the sword of free speech. But as you rightly say, I've known him a long time, before he started working on this programme. Our friendship will go on, our personal friendship, and he's been very supportive of me personal. But yeah, it's a different show, isn't it? But the show goes on."

Dan Walker, the co-host of 'BBC Breakfast', recently reached out to Piers on Twitter to invite him on the show.

In a tongue-in-cheek post, he said: "Sorry to hear the news about your departure from GMB @piersmorgan If you’d like to come on the UK’s number 1 breakfast show to talk about it... we could make some space for you in the morning [thumbs-up emoji] (sic)"
