The television presenter is set to take a brief leave of absence from the BBC One show as she prepares to welcome her third child - a sibling for Edward, four and Kit, two - and she admits it doesn't get easier the more times she goes on maternity leave.

Speaking on The One Show as she bid a temporary goodbye to viewers, she said: "Oh you know me I cry over the slightest thing. Honestly being here is just superb, I loved doing it every night and it's really hard to go away. I know it's the third one but it's really hard to go away."

Alex previously insisted she will never take her job on 'The One Show' for "granted".

Speaking about her impending baby break, she said: "Nobody's completely finally fine with taking time off, are they? If you really enjoy and respect the job you do and you've worked really hard to get to where you are, there's always going to be a small part of you that doesn't want to let go.

"I think that's quite healthy as well because it means you're not taking anything for granted. I definitely never would. It's a very sought-after job."

Alex now presents 'The One Show' alternately with permanent co-hosts Ronan Keating and retired footballer Jermaine Jenas following months of different co-hosts in the wake of Matt Baker's departure in Spring 2020 and she loves working with the duo.

She said: "I suppose it happened by accident. I've really loved being on the show in the last year, more than other, which is an odd thing to say. The show has become more light-hearted, not so scripted. And it's lovely now we've got Ronan [Keating] and Jermaine [Jenas] because it was a bit Tinder-y for a while with people in and out. We've all got children the same age and they're really nice guys. I'll feel supported when I'm on maternity leave."
