'EastEnders' star Rita Simons is looking forward to Roxy Mitchell "getting her balls back" in 2014.

The 36-year-old actress - who plays the blonde bombshell in the BBC One soap - believes her alter-ego became a "Stepford Wife robot" when she struck up a relationship with loveable Alfie Moon (Shane Richie).

However, following the breakdown of their romance, Roxy is determined to cause uproar among her family by bedding bad boy Carl White (Daniel Coonan) in a bid to return to her old ways.

Rita told website SoapSquawk: "Carl is the bad boy Roxy used to go for before Alfie. But she's just in a mad tailspin at the moment. She's trying to have as much fun as she can because she's upset.

"But it's like the real Roxy is returning. When she was with Alfie she wasn't the real Roxy - she was like a Stepford Wife robot, looking for security and turning into whoever she needed to be. But she's always liked a bad boy.

"I'm looking forward to Roxy getting her balls back."

Meanwhile, Rita's on-screen sister Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack) is set to show a darker side to her personality after she finds out what her younger sibling has been up to.

She previously said: "It's about time we made the audience feel uncomfortable about Ronnie. I want people saying, 'No Ronnie don't do that!' "
