The 'Coronation Street' star - who is engaged to co-star Joe Duttine - is hoping to wed her fiance this Christmas but will first walk down the aisle as her 'Corrie' character Abi Franklin when she marries Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) this summer.

Asked which wedding will come first, she told What's On TV: "The TV wedding. COVID-permitting, my real wedding will be at Christmas this year, hopefully. Fingers crossed!"

The couple got engaged during the COVID-19 lockdown, with Joe - who plays Tim Metcalfe in the ITV soap - announcing the news on his Twitter page.

The 50-year-old actor posted a picture showing them toasting the engagement, in which Sally's sparkler is clearly visible, and wrote: "She said yes everyone, convid 19 can f*** off... Convid, covid, whuteva (sic)."

Meanwhile, Sally thinks her on-screen wedding is set to be "gorgeous" after Abi - who she has played since 2017 - asked Kevin's first wife, Sally Webster, to officiate.

She explained: "Sally volunteers her services as chief bridesmaid/maid of honour, and Abi's not having it; she's like 'I don't want bridesmaids – stop taking over!' because Kevin gets her in to organise the wedding.

"Sally's really hurt, but Abi says to her, 'I do want you to officiate it; I want you to marry us,' which is just gorgeous."

However, it seems like Debbie Wester (Sue Devaney) is up for the job of hosting the wedding as a way to make amends after clashing with Abi on the cobbles.

Sally teased: "Debbie's trying to make amends in the only way she knows how, which is to throw money at it, and that's not going to work for Abi at all.

"Abi is sore over what Debbie did. She doesn't like to be made a mug of, and she has been properly made a fool of."
