The former 'Coronation Street' actor and the ex-'Hollyoaks' star - who have five-year-old daughter Willow together - are expecting a baby girl in May.
Shayne said: "I would always say to Sophie, 'I know in my gut and in my heart of hearts that we are going to have more children.' "
The couple turned to IVF, but that failed and Sophie fell pregnant naturally.
Shayne added: "There was no two ways about it. We never gave up. It's been a whirlwind. And 16 years after I appeared on 'The X Factor', I have a beautiful family and one on the way.
"I am on cloud nine. It's amazing that we're going to have another girl to add to the Ward clan."
And the pair already have a name for their daughter - if Willow has her way, as she wants to call her baby sister Aurora after the Disney princess in 'Sleeping Beauty'.
Speaking in a joint interview with HELLO! magazine, Sophie added: "She keeps saying, 'Can I just speak to Aurora?'
"And then she kisses my tummy."
In June, Shayne - who popped the question to Sophie on Boxing Day 2017 - admitted he was in "no rush" to get married after the pair postponed their wedding due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Shayne - who played Aidan Connor in 'Corrie' - quipped: "Don't tell Sophie. No, literally we spoke about it and that was what was nice about it.
"Everything can wait, there is no rush and we can definitely do this next year, but we're together for life and that is the main thing, we're together regardless."
