The 50-year-old actor is reprising the role of Ricky Butcher in the BBC soap, and Sid can't wait for his return to Walford.

He said: "I’m delighted to back at 'EastEnders'.

"I can’t wait to see what Ricky Butcher has been up to these past few years and how he’s going to react to seeing some familiar faces including old flames. I’m excited to see the drama unfold."

Ricky first appeared on 'EastEnders' in 1988, when his dad, Frank Butcher, became the landlord of The Queen Vic pub.

The iconic soap character is now being reunited with his sister, Janine, in Albert Square, and they're set to spark some mayhem on the show.

Chris Clenshaw, the executive producer of 'EastEnders', can't wait for Ricky's return to the soap.

Chris said: "It is a great pleasure to welcome Sid back to the role of Ricky Butcher. Sid helped to create such an iconic character in Ricky who became so synonymous with the show and we couldn’t be more excited to have him back for a while."

Ricky is set to come face-to-face with his ex-wife Sam Mitchell on his return to Walford, and the character will find himself "slap-bang in the middle of mayhem".

Chris explained: "Ricky has so much history in the Square to explore and while a lot of time has passed since we last saw him, it’s fair to say wherever Ricky goes, he always finds himself slap-bang in the middle of mayhem."

Meanwhile, Sid previously admitted the he would "never say never" to the possibility of returning to the soap.

Asked about the possibility of a comeback, he said: "Hopefully if the door’s still open - never say never. It’s a huge part of my life, and people love the character."
