Singer Jamelia is joining Hollyoaks full time

The 42-year-old star first appeared in the soap as Sharon Bailey in September 2021, and she will return as a permanent cast member on March 20th on E4, and March 21st on Channel 4.

She said: "I just can’t tell you how happy I am to be back at 'Hollyoaks'.

"We’ve been having the best time on set and I already have lovely friends here, some old, some new."

In upcoming scenes, Sharon will pay her mother Pearl Anderson (Dawn Hope) and daughter Zoe Anderson (Garcia Brown) a visit on Mother’s Day, but her return to the village will "unsettle the family dynamic".

Jamelia said: "Sharon’s big arrival unsettles the family dynamic! It’s complicated within the three generations of women but hopefully that is relatable.

"Sharon hasn’t always prioritised her daughter and her mum is stuck in the middle.

"There’s a lot for them to work through and I can’t wait for viewers to see how that plays out on screen."

Jamelia, who has been filming since January, also features in an upcoming storyline with Richard Blackwood (Felix Westwood), and Jennifer Metcalfe (Mercedes McQueen).

Pearl has become a mother figure to Felix since moving to the Hollyoaks village permanently, and now runs Price Slice.

Zoe is a police officer, and had a prominent role in the recent Long Walk Home storyline.

In August 2021, it was revealed Jamelia was joining 'Hollyoaks' in a guest role for a special episode featuring Richard and Kelle Bryan.

The episode played a pivotal part in Channel 4’s Black to Front Project, the ground-breaking diversity project culminating in a special day of content on September 10, 2021.

Across the day Channel 4, broadcast programming fronted by Black talent and featuring Black contributors, to champion Black voices and stories, and the incredible Black talent that make, shape and star in British TV.
