Sophie Ellis-Bextor doesn't think Anton du Beke should become a judge on 'Strictly Come Dancing'.

The 37-year-old singer competed on the ballroom and latin show three years ago when she was partnered with Brendan Cole and, although she has a huge amount of respect for all of the professional dancers on the programme, she doesn't think any of them should take over as Head Judge now that Len Goodman has left because they're needed to help create impressive dance routines for competitors.

Speaking to BANG Showbiz, she said: "I think it's going to have to be someone who knows their ballroom and the only person I know that knows their ballroom is Len, so I think I will have to be introduced by the 'Strictly...' team but I'm sure they will find someone very well qualified. I think Anton and Brendan have a really good role in the show, they're very good with teaching the contestants so no, I think they are still very much needed on that side of things."

Although bosses are still trying to find a replacement for Len - who stepped down from his role last year following 12 years on the show - Anton looks like the person to take over at the moment as he was recently offered a screen test to see whether he suits sitting on the panel with the rest of the judges.

A source said recently: "Everyone loves Anton and he has been one of the favourites for the job because of his seniority and for being on the show since it started.

"He would be like a younger Len and the transition would definitely be a smooth one. They've obviously not ruled out other people but it's a good sign for Anton."

Anton isn't the only professional dancer being lined up for the role though, as Karen Hardy recently admitted she would "love" to bag the gig on the judging panel later this year.

However, fans shouldn't have to wait too much longer to find out who will take the top position.
