The former 'Hollyoaks' star was contemplating suicide last year after she split from her on/off boyfriend Jeremy McConnell, but she's so proud of herself for picking herself back up and believes she owes it all to her 14-month-old son Caben-Albi.

Taking to her Instagram account last night (08.03.18), Stephanie said: "So today is my birthday.. and ALSO international women day! Firstly Thankyou for all your beautiful birthday messages made me smile waking to so many with so much love!

Today I woke up got in the shower and played Destinys child - I'm a survivor.

"How things can change in just a year. Last year my world came crumbling down on this very day, and I honestly honestly didn't think I would see another year. I was so depressed, empty and a ghost of my former self and lost the will to live-I had no fight left. It was the hardest struggle I've ever been though.

"The strength it took me to get back onto my feet again, brush myself down, have the courage to ask for help. I gave it all I had because I had nothing left, I don't know where my strength came from, but my god did I have it.

"I rebuilt my self at the lowest point in my life whilst also being a single mum and having to look after another life alone which was extra challenging. I knew I had to come through this for my world, the one who saved me, my son."

The 25-year-old actress now wants to use her experience to help others.

She explained: "Recently I have tried to use my experience to help others, to say it's OK not to be OK, I may not be Beyoncé, but I have a voice and a platform that I HAD to use to help others. To try & help people in similar situations. It took guts especially so soon on in recovery, but I had a burning desire to carry this message. I said if my hurt helped at least ONE person I'd be happy, I've now lost count of the amount I've helped!! I am SO proud of my self to be here a year later, standing, strong, independent with a strength I've never known! compared from last year was a very VERY different situation on this day."

The brunette beauty concluded her message by showing to support to all the "single mommas who play mum and dad" out there - seemingly making a dig at Jeremy.

She added: "Hats of to all my fellow single mommas who play mum and dad with no help or payment support from the dead beats and mommas who Day in day out devote there life to there children. To all women shapes sizes colour religion age etc, you are beautiful! You are strong! (sic)"

Jeremy was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison last year after he was found guilty of assaulting Stephanie, but he was released after just 34 days behind bars.

He's also got a three-year restraining order against him.
