The Walking Dead is inching closer to the end of its sixth season on AMC right now, and with the arrival of new character Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) to the small screen, who fans of the Walking Dead comic books know from that universe, there could be some major moves ahead.

Speaking about the arrival, actor Steven Yeun who plays Glenn in the show told EW: "We've been waiting for this person for a long time, and in the comic books, he in a way brings a level of stakes that are kind of unmatched. And so, for me, for Negan to come into the show is, to say nothing less, f**king awesome."

Robert Kirkman, creator of the comic books and executive producer on the show has already said that Negan's presence will be like an "atomic bomb", and the show will "probably never be the same" once he's made his debut.

Those who have read the comic books know that Negan arrives with his barbed wire covered bat Lucille, picking out one of the crew to kill in revenge for some of his men dying.

The person he chooses to die is Glenn and he delivers perhaps one of the most shocking killing blows of the comics to-date, and one that will leave viewers with their mouths wide open if the small screen adaptation remains utterly faithful.

Yeun comments: "I know people are going to always go, 'Negan kills Glenn in the comics,' but rest assured that we don't necessarily do what's in the comics. There's a clear divide in the way we tell a story on television, and the way that story is told in the comics, because it has to be. And everybody will have to see what happens, but we definitely tell our story in the way that television should be told."

The Walking Dead continues Sundays on AMC in the US and follows Mondays in the UK on FOX.
