CBS is officially in the superhero game with the upcoming television series Supergirl confirmed and picked up for a full order on the channel. After seeing the Greg Berlanti executive produced pilot episode, the network have put their faith behind the DC Comics adaptation and the man also responsible for The CW's Arrow and The Flash.

Melissa Benoist stars in the title role as Kara Zor-El, and viewers will pick up with the character at the age of 24. Hiding her powers since first discovering them upon her arrival on Earth from Krypton years ago, she finally decides to embrace her abilities and become the hero she's supposed to be.

Berlanti teamed with Andrew Kreisberg and Ali Adler to write the pilot and each serve as executive producers for the show. Mechad Brooks, Calista Flockhart, Chyler Leigh and Jeremy Jordan all also star, with appearances also from original Supergirl Helen Slater and previous Superman Dean Cain.

Next week will see CBS reveal exactly when Supergirl hits the small screen, with the network unveiling their full schedule at the upfronts presentation.
