Tom Hardy has been cast in a brand new role on television, in the upcoming second series of BBC Two's Peaky Blinders.

The BAFTA-winning actor will be taking on the role as a 'charismatic leader who presents a unique opportunity to Tommy Shelby' (Cillian Murphy).

Reuniting Hardy with the Locke writer and director Steven Knight who created the show and is writing all six of the future, second series episodes, Hardy will hit screens in autumn 2014.

The news was announced earlier today through the Peaky Blinders social media channels, and fans couldn't contain their excitement.

The series will begin filming later this month, and will see the Shelby family 'expand their empire as the 1920s begin to roar'.
