The 43-year-old actress is currently entangled in a gruesome domestic abuse storyline as her alter-ego Rhona Goskirk is brutally attacked and raped by her new husband Pierce Harris (Jonathan Wrather) just hours after they tie the knot but, although she likes her kids Violet, 12 and Stanley, nine, whom she has with her husband Jeff Hordley, to watch the soap, she's not letting her youngsters tune in at the moment.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, she said: "I'm the mother of a 12-year-old girl and in the next five years she'll be growing up and moving on. It's more relevant than ever for me now. My kids won't be watching the episode, because I'd find it a bit difficult. But I will probably sit down and talk her through it when I have some time."

However, the brunette beauty thinks soaps are "relevant" because they teach kids right from wrong in situations that are becoming more and more frequent in society.

She explained to the publication: "This is why soaps are relevant. We tell important stories about relevant things, often things like non-consensual sex, underage sex, teenage pregnancy - the soaps have covered them all."

And it looks like Zoe's children won't be watching the programme for a while as 'Emmerdale's boss Iain MacLeod has teased the relationship between the vet and the businessman is set to turn even more gruesome towards the end of the year.

He said previously: "Rhona and Pierce will continue to escalate and deteriorate. His behaviour gets more and more dark and manipulative. And there's a really huge story for them that will run right up to the end of the year."

Although bosses are remaining tight lipped on how the truth will come out, Iain previously teased that the abuse will become so aggressive that viewers may actually find it "uncomfortable" to watch, sparking rumours that it'll end with a dramatic death.
