The 'Emmerdale' actress - who shares an allotment with husband and co-star Jeff Hordley - has opened up on the "joy" she feels from growing her own produce.

Zoe - who plays Rhona Goskirk in the ITV soap - shared images of carrots and parsnips on Twitter and wrote: "The joy of growing root veg is you never quite know what's going on beneath the soil! We'd given up on our parrots... and here's a little parsnip hug too."

Jeff previously opened up about how the allotment had been a good place to escape during the coronavirus pandemic.

The 50-year-old star – who plays Cain Dingle in 'Emmerdale' – said: "You know the allotment is a really great thing, it's the one normality that Zoe and I have, because our existence on the allotment is the same as it is, lockdown or no lockdown.

"But to have your hands in the earth and growing things, it's such a positive thing, it's such a great thing for mental health and stuff like that."

The couple have rarely shared a storyline in their time on the ITV soap and Zoe has explained in the past that the pair would rather not "work together".

The 47-year-old actress said: "I think we probably both prefer not to work together.

"Of course, we enjoy each other's company, yet I think we quite enjoy each other's independence at work.

"I don't know how Rhona and Cain would get on, either – although I can see why it's a source of amusement for people if we're in the same scenes."
