Following on from Monday night's performances by the men it was the girls turn on this season of "Dancing With the Stars," as with the men the audience and judges were looking for the early frontrunners.

Monday saw Aaron Carter emerge as an early contender Tuesday night's performances by the women also put forth a couple of strong performers, though there were more possible dark horses and one very compelling story.

beautiful in its own bizarre way

Debi Mazar of "Entourage," fame was first up partnered by Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Mazar's salsa was surprisingly challenging. Her hips and feet weren't quite on the mark but she showed promise acknowledged by Carrie Ann.

Next on was Melissa Joan Hart with Mark Ballas, with the Viennese waltz, Melissa's expressive arms were graceful but the rest of her sometimes didn't match. OK for a first time out, but Bruno Tonioli unenthusiastically labelled her effort "adequate,".

Mya is partnered Dmitry Chaplin again with a Viennese waltz, and she looked like she might be a natural dancer.Len Goodman though had scathing remarks about Dmitry's choreography, but the other two judges liked the performance.

Former Supermodel Kathy Ireland and her partner Tony Dovolani who was alarmed, however, to note that she couldn't count on the beat of the music. Kathy was constantly looking to Tony just to keep up with the timing. The judges verdict - stiff and awkward.

Natalie Coughlin an Olympic medalist in swimming, paired with Alec Mazo, Natalie seemed to have the hang of it, but her hips aren't quite built for Latin dancing Alec will need to work on this coordinated and athletic, but she still tends to look like she's working a little too hard.

Macy Gray is dancing with Jonathan Roberts (remember he had to contend with Marie Osmond's fainting spell and Heather Mills’ missing leg), found that this seasons task would not be any easier commenting - Gray "a little bit eccentric" The performance well Gray managed to walk around the floor in time with the music for her Viennese waltz, Carrie Ann Inaba called the performance "beautiful in its own bizarre way,".

Joanna Krupa and Derek Hough look like a great team when they're standing in line waiting for the show to start but would this translate to the dance floor - well it seemed so Joanna looked good dancing. She turned in a salsa that looked genuinely sexy, she definitely looks like a competitor to watch.

Kelly Osbourne and  Louis van Amstel closed the solo performances, a lovely smile, stacks of grace, and natural ability than anyone she was the nights star looking a potential winner.

Next up was a foxtrot relay, Natalie, Kathy, Debi and Joanna. All the women in the relay looked fairly good, with Joanna and Natalie in the lead. It was a much closer contest than either of the men's relays on Monday night, with the judges' placings Joanna, Natalie, Debi and Kathy.
