Mark Wright

Mark Wright

Ant & Dec explained the trial to Mark.

There were a series of wheels mounted on posts with drop boxes and when turned, the posts would lower the stars which were hanging above them.

In true Bushtucker Trial the drop boxes were filled with various creepy crawlies. Mark had to lower the stars, collect them and place them on the post in front, all within ten minutes. There were eight stars to collect - six wheels worth one star and one at the back that was worth two stars and each represented a meal for camp. There was a catch though; Mark needed to be quick to get the stars or when he took his hand off the wheel they would be lifted back up again.

Also, to make things even harder there were three pits in the ground which would slow him down including slime bog, quick sand and a pit of fish guts. When asked if he was ready Mark replied: “A very hesitant…yes!”.

Mark on the start of the klaxon jumped into the slime bog pit and spun the wheel and realised how hard it was going to be and when the cockroaches dropped on him he shrieked: “Jesus Christ!” Mark then got the star and moved onto the next wheel and within one minute had obtained a second star.

Mark then moved onto the next pit – quick sand. Mark grabbed the wheel for the next star whilst meal worms were dropped on his head, he added: “They smell like poo worms”and grabbed the third star. Mark re-entered the quick sand with two and a half minutes gone and sunk lower into the quick sand with more cockroaches dropped on him and managed to just free him just in time to get the fourth star.

Mark then had to face a pit of fish guts and attempted the next wheel with crickets dropped on him. Mark looked exhausted and worked hard to lower the fifth star and ran to grab the star. Mark then re-entered the pit grabbed the wheel this time with more meal worms dropped on him. Mark successfully grabbed the sixth star.

Mark attacked the final wheel with two minutes left (this star being worth two stars).  Mark cried: “I have cockroaches crawling up my bum”. Mark then lowered the star and raced to get the final star with one and half minutes to go in record timing and won all eight stars.

An exhausted Mark relieved it was over said to Ant & Dec: “It was very tiring…I do a lot of fitness at home and that really tested me…it was hard”.
