The 'Only Way is Essex' star has been asked to head Down Under after show producers rejected her co-stars Gemma Collins, who lasted just 72 hours in the jungle last year, and Chloe Sims following their failed psychiatric tests.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "'Towie' stars make great contestants and we were determined to get one of them this year. Our first choice was Gemma. Her appearance last year was a bit of a disaster, but it did make great telly and she definitely has unfinished business on the show.

"We got her in for psych tests, but there were issues. Then we approached Chloe, but again there were issues."

ITV producers are convinced Ferne, who is known for her bubbly personality and feisty outbursts, will stir up some trouble in the camp and create some great entertainment.

The insider explained: "Now we have finally got our woman. Ferne is incredibly outspoken and she can be a bit of a stirrer. So if she rubs some of her campmates up the wrong way, sparks will really fly."

Ferne is set to join former 'Geordie Shore' star Vicky Pattison, rapper 50 Cent, 'Weakest Link' host Anne Robinson and James Arthur in the jungle as they all come face-to-face with creepy crawlies, tuck into rice and beans and meet some of the world's most dangerous animals.

'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!', which is fronted by comedy duo Ant and Dec, will hit screens on November 15.
