BBC dance show 'Strictly Come Dancing' has seen a number of relationships falter when contestants fell for their professional partners but Peter - who married Emily MacDonagh in July and was partnered with Janette Manrara on 'Strictly' - insisted that the programme is not to blame.

He told OK! magazine: "One thing everyone spoke about was the 'Strictly curse' when I started out on the show, but I'm living proof there's no such thing - it's only there if you want it to be there."

Peter also hit out at dancer Ola Jordan's claims that the judges' scores are fixed and fellow contestant Jamelia's allegations that his standing ovation was faked.

He said: "It's a load of rubbish. You get judged according to your performance and that's it.

"Jamelia's comments made no sense to me. It was a very strange thing to say. The remarks weren't justified and the idea of a fix couldn't have been true as I was out the next week anyway!

"I don't want to have a go at Jamelia as we get on really well, I just think the whole thing was misguided. I think people need to get a bit of perspective - it's meant to be a fun dancing competition and it's meant to be a bit of a laugh!"
