The 'Patience' hitmaker - who sat on the panel for three series between 2011 to 2013 - believes his former Take That bandmate would be a "good" addition to the show, but doesn't think he has the right temperament for TV.

He said: "Do you know what I think he would make a good judge; I just can't imagine him doing it. Having done the show and knowing the amount of time that goes into it, I just can't imagine Rob. He's not as patient as me and you have to be very patient when you're doing telly. So no I can't imagine him doing it.

"I've actually talked to him, years ago, because he was offered 'American Idol' once and he said, 'It's too much time'. I don't think it'll happen, I mean listen I could be wrong but..."

While Gary enjoyed his own stint as head judge on the talent contest, he is in no rush to return to the programme.

Speaking to 'Big John @ Breakfast' on Hallam FM radio, he said: I think it's too soon to go back. I enjoyed it but it's too soon. We're busy, we're flat out at the moment... "
