The 56-year-old music mogul has promised a "sensational" finish to this year's programme, with Coldplay, One Direction and Adele all set to perform in London over the coming weekend.

Speaking at the Hilton London Wembley ahead of 'The X Factor' Final, Simon told BANG Showbiz: "It took me a while to make up my mind if we really wanted her. Are you kidding?

"When we got the news - and I had to keep it quiet last weekend - it was the best news I've had all year.

"She absolutely is going to cap off what I hope is going to be an amazing weekend and actually it's really the best of British.

"It's Coldplay, it's One Direction, it's Adele - it's the biggest artists in the world. It's going to be sensational."

The 27-year-old Londoner will perform her track 'Hello', from her chart-topping album '25', which was released last month.

Meanwhile, Simon also praised the quality of this year's competition, and admitted he's a fan of the newly-introduced six-chair challenge concept.

He said: "The talent was great and people liked the six chair challenge."

What's more, Simon claimed he was looking forward to seeing rival programme 'The Voice' make the transition from BBC to ITV, the long-time home of 'The X Factor'.

Asked about the planned move, Simon said: "It doesn't matter to me whether it's on BBC or ITV.

"I think in a weird way it'll be more a little bit more gentlemanly when it's on ITV because I've been on lots of networks where we have two shows on at the same time and ['The X Factor'] is going to stay where it is."

'The X Factor' continues at 8pm on ITV1 on Saturday (12.12.15).
