RuPaul's Drag Race returned to Logo last night for its seventh season, and a whole group of new faces that will fight for the position of America's Next Drag Superstar and a cash prize of $100,000.

Fourteen queens are pushed straight into the competition - there's no split premiere this year - and the daggers are out for one another right from the get-go, with Tempest Dujour asked immediately upon her arrival by one of her fellow competitors: "How old are you?"

Alongside Tempest, we have Ginger Minj, Jaidynn Diore Fierce, Jasmine Masters, Kandy Ho', Katya, Kennedy Davenport, Max, Miss Fame, Mrs. Kasha Davis, Pearl, Sasha Belle, Trixie Mattel and Violet Chackhi, all of whom throw themselves straight into the first task - to walk the fashion runway with a look from both their spring and fall collections.

Ru is joined by fellow head judge Michelle Visage as well as two new permanant additions to the panel in the form of Ross Mathews and Carson Kressley, filling the space previously occupied by Santino Rice.

The Pit Crew has also been changed slightly, with the removal of long-time member Shawn Morales and addition of Bryce Eilenberg, who's 'definitely Jewish'.

With many if not all of the cast impressing in one way or another, it's hard to choose a stand-out at such an early stage, but Ginger, Max, Miss Fame and Pearl are certainly ones that catch the eye.

Moving into the main challenge, Ru gets a cheeky plug for her album 'Born Naked' in a competition that asks the queens to show off their resort-wear tearaway which should reveal a 'nude illusion'.

Whilst some of the queens go full-out and show off their tuck to the entire panel (which included special guest judge Kathy Griffin), others use strategically placed objects and pieces of fabric or material to cover their jewels.

In the end, it was Kandy Ho and Tempest DuJour who had to lip-sync for their lives to RuPaul and Lucian Piane track 'Geronimo', before eventually Tempest was sent packing.

Writing her message on the mirror: "Love yourself. Live your truth. You're never too old to dream.", the rest of the competitors lived to drag another day.

So, what did we make of the first episode? It was fine but not without its flaws. The fact that there is no one standout queen so early on perhaps isn't surprising because of the great quality here, but this isn't the only niggle I had with the production.

From the off-set it was clear Tempest was going to go home, for example. For us seasoned viewers who know the editors of Drag Race inside out, if a queen is being given their backstory and a platform to share it throughout most of the episode, in this case Tempest's incredible weight loss and role as a teacher, there's a huge chance they won't be back for the next episode.

Not only this, but there seemed to be a lack of structure to the episode, which is perhaps the network's fault for only allowing it 40 minutes plus ads. A 90 minute special for a premiere would have allowed viewers a greater look into the workroom this week, and a chance to get to know the queens a little better right from the off-set.

With that being said, the one thing that's certain about the show and the cast is potential. Each has the ability to shine and season seven could prove to be the closest run competition yet.

RuPaul's Drag Race season seven continues Mondays on Logo, with seasons one to six available now on Netflix UK.
