Emmerdale fans will soon be strapping themselves in for yet another huge storyline including the Barton family, with Michael Parr’s character Ross Barton taking centre-stage next year in a plot separate from all of the issues currently surrounding his now-deceased on-screen mother Emma Barton.

Speaking to Inside Soap’s Yearbook 2018, Parr explained: “Ross has a big story coming his way in the new year, but I’m not allowed to tell you anything about it. It’s a big subject that we’re going to be tackling and I’ll have to do a lot of research for it, which really excites me. It takes me back to my days of studying at drama school!”

Though this confirms he’ll still be in the soap come 2018, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Ross isn’t responsible for the death of Emma Barton. It could just mean that he doesn’t get caught!

He teased: “I’ve been in this situation before – Ross hung Pete off that exact same viaduct. It’s a family tradition! Plus he shot Robert, and at the time we didn’t know how that would pan out and whether he would die.

“So if it does turn out to be Ross, then hopefully it will bring back that edge he used to have.”

Looks like there’s an intriguing future ahead for the fan-favourite character! And all this after he was left for dead by his brother Pete not so long ago, only to shock viewers and make a successful return having made it to the hospital and survived.

Parr’s clearly hugely popular with the audience, winning a multitude of awards in the past few years including Best Actor and Best Bad Boy, as well as Sexiest Male at 2015’s Inside Soap Awards. We imagine there’s quite a few more wins for Parr down the line.

We’ll bring you more information surrounding the planned storyline for Ross Barton and any other exciting teases for the future of Emmerdale in the coming weeks!
