While Jack is being treated in hospital, George remains in typically callous form and has raced to the station to try to convince McGrath and Fitz that his colleague was an accessory to the robbery. With the police already unsure of his claims, Martha’s subsequent statement only serves to deepen their suspicions. She may not have seen the second culprit to whom she refers, but she’s convinced that his voice didn’t match Jack’s; when, on a visit to the hospital, she hears George’s slippery tones telling Rory that Jack will soon be ‘sweet as’, she’s certain his was the one she heard. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take long for the man himself to cotton on to her plans to go to the police, hunting her down to her apartment as she’s making the call. Although Ric eventually manages to rid himself of the nuisance, as well as later managing to play doting grandson by picking Alf up from his appointment, he’s in for a big surprise. As he returns home after a difficult day, he settles down to relax while waiting for Matilda. It’s not long before he feels her hands on his shoulders and her kissing his neck – or, at least, he thinks it’s Matilda…=
