Annie and Geoff are suspicious of the relationship between Michael and Bruce, not to mention deeply hurt by the fact that their grandfather would sooner trust a stranger to take the reins at the farm than accept help from either of them. And so it is that, resigned to the fact that she’s no longer welcome in her grandfather’s home, Annie sneaks off to return for some more of her belongings. By the time Geoff and Irene have noticed her missing, Annie finds herself deep in conversation with Michael, surprised to find that her Pop’s new farmhand isn’t quite as bad as she first thought. Of course, Irene is horrified when she stumbles upon the two of them together – and even more so by the fact of Jonah having been using an alias. ‘Whatever it takes to run you out of town, mate, I’ll do it,’ she warns, before rushing Annie and Geoff to Bruce’s bedside to warn him about the impostor. Bruce being Bruce, her advice falls on deaf ears; already aware of his new protégée’s history and convinced that people can change, he remains unfazed and maintains his typically stubborn stance. Irene's frustration and concern only deepen when Jack and Fitz report that, provided that Jonah doesn’t violate the terms of his parole, their hands are tied. ‘Yours might be, mate, but mine aren’t,’ Irene says cryptically. Just what is she planning to do? What lies beneathIt’s the day of Jack and Sam’s engagement party, and everyone’s rushing around trying to get things ready in time – everyone but Rory, who can’t help but find himself preoccupied by the mysterious new girl in town, Tam. Having first run into her down by the beach and received a particularly frosty reception, Rory’s later surprised to find her rooting through his family’s mailbox as part of her bid to find out more about who lives there. She soon barges her way into the house, claiming it as a former home, and sweet-talks her naïve companion into cutting her a slice of the cake destined for the party – only to wait until his back is turned before taking off with Jack’s watch and a photo of Rachel. While the party is ultimately a success, ruined cake excluded, it therefore comes as little surprise that Sam is less than impressed with her son’s lack of judgment, deciding that he’ll forfeit their joint trip to see his cousins in favour of staying with Jack (which, admittedly, isn’t really a punishment as far as Rory’s concerned).

Still, the day looks set to pick up when, as Jack and Rory later take a walk together, they spot Tam’s car outside the Surf Club and manage to recover their missing belongings. Not having expected to count a photo of Rachel among the stolen goods, though, Jack can’t help but wonder: does this mysterious newcomer have a connection to the Bay after all?
