Andrew Paul will play a love interest for Beverley Callard's Liz McDonald

The former 'The Bill' actor will play brewery worker Dan Jones, who embarks on a romance with Liz McDonald (Beverley Callard) after she learns Tony Stewart has cheated on her with Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford).

However, Liz could be in for a shock as Dan has a "dark secret" that connects him to another local resident.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Dan is a good looking charmer with a great line in patter and Liz McDonald is soon well and truly on the rebound from Tony and falling for him.

But what she doesn't know is he has history with another Weatherfield woman and when his dark secret is exposed it will reveal his true personality."

Andrew played PC Dave Quinnan in 'The Bill' for 13 years but his character in 'Corrie' is a "world away" from his most famous alter ego.

The source added: "The character is a world away from his days as copper Dave in 'The Bill'.

"It's an exciting part for Andrew and he can't wait to get stuck in on the cobbles. He has changed a bit from his days on 'The Bill' so he might be an arresting sight for some viewers."

Andrew's contract is short-term initially, but his stay in Weatherfield could stretch longer than just a few months if he proves to be a hit with viewers.
