Five funny fellas make up The Noise Next Door - a comedy improv group who, with the help of audience members, take suggestions on topics and create on-the-spot songs at every show.

Recently popping up across the comedy circuit, they performed in front of over 4,000 people at last year's BBC3 Edinburgh Comedy Gala and are now developing a show with Channel 4.

But what kind of comedy makes each of the five members - Matt, Tom H, Tom L, Charlie and Sam - really tick? We thought we'd find out.

Matt

Jim Carrey - Movie making is a playground of toys, and while so many performers stand idly by and forget that, Jim Carrey is the kid who knows he can play with them and incites you to join in the fun!

Tom H

Reggie Watts - I tend not to dwell on one icon, but I'm really enjoying Reggie watts at the moment. He's just got such an original voice. You can watch a show of his and be totally baffled by the ridiculousness of it, then watch the same show again and be blown away by the subtle lines hidden in the madness. Not only that, I love musical comedy, and he's a master of the loop pedal. Some of the beats he drops and the freestyles that follow are unbelievable! Thoughtful, fun and original. Comedy is about putting your own stamp on it, and Reggie has smashed it!

Tom L

Edgar Wright - It's not just the guys on camera that make things funny. As a writer / director Wright's filmography is packed full of brilliant, witty dialogue and hilarious characterisation. Not only that, Wright also draws laughs from the editing in Hot Fuzz, the special effects in Scott Pilgrim and even silence in Shaun of the Dead. He's not afraid to be creative, to do things differently and to cut his own path.

Charlie

John Cleese - John Cleese is undoubtedly my comedy icon. I grew up on weekly doses of Fawlty Towers and obsessing over Monty Python. He's always brought an incredible energy and conviction to his performances, and consistently made me laugh in every project he's been a a part of. Starting at the Edinburgh Fringe in the 60's and ending up in blockbuster movies such as Harry Potter - his career is something I regularly aspire to.

Sam

Andy Kaufman - Whilst growing up watching Tommy Cooper and Dave Allen on the sofa with my dad, or listening to old recordings of the Goon Show to delight in Spike Milligan's stupidity, my stand out comedy icon is Andy Kaufman. His unflinching commitment to character; his willingness to not only push boundaries, but to create his own and redefine genres; his ability to convince an audience of anything and then tear it away in an instant... The man was a genius way ahead of his time, and his impact could have been even more incredible had he not sadly been ripped from the world at a mere 35 years old.
