Created and Executive Produced by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville) and Executive Produced by Jon Favreau (Iron Man), and shot against the epic landscapes of New Zealand, The Shannara Chronicles is based on the 26 volume book series by Terry Brooks, telling the epic story of an Elvin princess, a bandit and a half-Elf tasked with stopping the end of the world. With the books already a major hit around the world the series is much anticipated by fans.

To celebrate the release of season one of The Shannara Chronicles on Blu-ray and DVD from 6th June, we take a look at the show's stars from where we've seen them before to where we'll be seeing them next.

Austin Butler

Heartthrob and other half to former Disney star Vanessa Hudgens, Austin Butler takes on the lead role of Wil Ohmsford in The Shannara Chronicles. Wil is a young man struggling to find his place in the world. Half-elf and half-human, he's felt the sting of prejudice all his life. Desperate to escape his small rural village, Wil learns that he is the last surviving member of the Shannara bloodline, a family that is able to wield a timeless and powerful magic. Initially, Wil rejects his newfound heritage, hoping to become a healer. However, he is soon plunged into a life-or-death quest that will require him to overcome his fears and unlock his true magical power.

I've seen him somewhere before: Austin's previous work includes Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries, Life Unexpected, Arrow and Switched at Birth. He's also starred in a number of movies including Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring, Aliens in the Attic and Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure.

What's next: Austin will be starring alongside Johnny Depp and his daughter Lily Rose in horror comedy Yoga Hosers which is due to hit cinemas this summer. He will also be starring alongside Pretty Little Liars' Lucy Hale in the comedy Dude.

Poppy Drayton

British actress Poppy Drayton stars as pure elf princess Amberle Elessedil in The Shannara Chronicles. Orphaned as a child, she is strong-willed, passionate, smart and determined to make a mark beyond her royal lineage. She's led a sheltered life inside the confines of her grandfather's Elvin palace. After defiantly becoming the first female member of The Chosen, a sacred sect dedicated to protecting the Ellcrys, Amberle's life changes forever when the Ellcrys start showing her horrific visions of the future, propelling her into a harrowing journey to save the world.

I've seen her somewhere before: Poppy has starred in episodes of Downton Abbey, Midsummer Murders and Father Brown.

What's next: She will be starring alongside Shirley MacLaine, William Moseley and Gina Gershon in one of two live action The Little Mermaid's set to hit screens in 2017. It is said that this reworking will not be the same story you remember from the 1989 Disney classic. While both tales draw from Hans Christian Andersen's original fairytale, this latest adaptation will take a very different look at the fantasy story.

Manu Bennett

Australian-New Zealand actor Manu Bennett takes on the role of Allanon in The Shannara Chronicles. Allanon is the last of the Druids, an ancient order of protectors whose members could live for centuries and bend magic to their will. As the Ellcrys begins to die, releasing a Demon army hell bent on destroying the world, Allanon is called to action and tasked with putting together an alliance of unlikely heroes. As the only person who understands the ultimate threat the Demons pose, he knows that his magic alone is not enough to save the world.

I've seen him somewhere before: Manu is best known for her portrayal of Crixus in the Starz television series Spartacus. He also appeared as orc commander Azog in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy and played supervillain Deathstroke in the TV series Arrow.

What's next: Later this year we will see Manu star alongside Malcolm McDowell as Frankenstein in Universal's Death Race 2050 a remake of 1975's Death Race 2000 and 2008's Death Race. He will also be taking on the lead role in sci-fi thriller Beta Test.

Ivana Baquero

Spanish actress Ivana Baquero plays Eretria in The Shannara Chronicles. Raised in a den of thieves, Eretria has been forced to use her instincts to survive. As a member of a travelling clan of humans known as Rover's she's become an expert in pickpocketing, sleight of hand and other criminal pursuits. Her life has been hard and to protect herself, Eretria has emotionally closed off and is unable to trust easily. Initially seeing Wil and Amberle's quest as a means of escape, she soon realises that joining their journey may be part of her destiny.

I've seen her somewhere before: Ivana got her big break when Guillermo Del Toro cast her as the lead in Pans Labyrinth. The role of Ofelia was originally intended for an eight year old girl, but the script was altered to accommodate Ivana, who was eleven at the time, due to her audition which blew Del Toro away.

What's next: She will be starring in the Spanish film Demonior tus ojos and the short film Como lagrimas en la sal.

John Rhys-Davies

John Rhys-Davies

Acclaimed welsh actor John Rhys-Davies takes on the role of Eventine Elessedil in The Shannara Chronicles. Eventine is Amberle's grandfather who has ruled the Elven Kingdom of Arborlon for decades alongside his children Arion and Ander.

I've seen him somewhere before: John is best known for his portrayal of Gimli in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and as the memorable Sallah in the Indiana Jones films. He is also a highly regarded voice actor so you may recognise him as the voices of Cassim in Disney's Aladdin and the King of Thieves, Man Ray in SpongeBob SquarePants and Hades in Justice League.

What's next: 2016 is set to be a busy year as he stars in six films including Nameless, Valley of the Gods, Camera Store and Aux.

The Shannara Chronicles is available now on both Blu-ray and DVD.
