The X Factor returned this weekend for 'Love and Heartache' week, which meant a whole lot of singing from the soul, reaching for those high notes and... a rendition of Beyonce's Single Ladies.

After a great opening week, this one left a little more to be desired, but there were of course standout moments from contestants including Nicholas McDonald, Tamera Foster and Hannah Barrett.

The flash vote shocked the nation this weekend as Kingsland Road found themselves bottom of the pack and singing for survival in Sunday night's show.

Robin Thicke impressed with his set - as did Katy Perry - both only disappointing by choosing to sing 'Blurred Lines' and 'Roar' over their new singles 'Give It 2 U' and 'Unconditionally'.

The tense reveal of who had been successful in gaining enough votes to go through to next week's show then took place, and luckily Shelley Smith was the second act to go into the sing-off, which ultimately saw her sent home with a 3-1 vote.

Next week we'll be treated to the ten remaining contenders taking on Hollywood hits as well as live performances from hit boyband The Wanted and global superstar Lady Gaga, who has promised a world exclusive.

'The X Factor' continues Saturday October 26 at 8pm.
