Kingsland Road

Kingsland Road

This weekend 'The X Factor' went to Hollywood, and thank goodness for Kingsland Road who brought some life to what was a ballad-heavy and sometimes dreary show.

Talent was shown in spades - as usual - by Hannah Barrett, Sam Bailey, Nicholas McDonald and Tamera Foster, but without Kingsland Road we fear the show would have truly lacked some 'oomph'.

Returning to the show after SeSe's hospital visit, Miss Dynamix unfortunately failed to impress. Sam Callahan and Abi Alton both also faced criticism from the judges, and the future looked bleak for the three acts.

Expectedly, Miss Dynamix found themselves at the bottom of the pack after a ten minute flash vote and would definitely be singing for survival in the following night's show.

That show came around quickly, with special guests The Wanted - who proved their vocals aren't to be overlooked with new single 'Show Me Love (America)' - and the always wonderful Lady Gaga who went for a more toned back look and Kate Bush-esque performance of two new songs - 'Venus' and 'Do What U Want'.

After the 'will she/won't she' drama of Sharon Osbourne addressing her feud with Gaga following the pop icon's performance, the pair revealed that they had met the night prior and settled their differences, with Gaga stating that Osbourne is a 'goddess of love'.

Producers wiped the sweat from their brows after avoiding the catfight, and all eyes turned to the long winded reveal of who would join Miss Dynamix in the sing-off.

This is where things got a little confusing for the show's fans, as Hannah Barrett - one of the night's most impressive acts - found herself singing for her 'life'.

Did people not pick up the phone for Barrett because they automatically assumed the 16-year-old was safe, or is she failing to connect with the audience at home?

Crying her way through her 'save me' song, she still outsang the competition and was ultimately saved from going home when the judges voted 3-1 to send SeSe Foster, Jeanette Akua and Rielle Carrington packing instead.

Simon Cowell aired his frustrations at the result, tweeting "I would have kept miss dynamix. I don't get that decision."

However, the consensus was that the panel did the right thing in giving Barrett a second chance, and she will now go through to next week's 'disco' themed show, where the acts will hopefully all bring a bit of joy and excitement to proceedings.

'The X Factor' continues Saturday November 2 on ITV.
