'X Factor'

'X Factor'

The X Factor live shows kicked off this weekend, with a 1980's theme, a brand new twist and - unfortunately - no sign of Dermot's dancing... or package.

12 acts took to the stage to belt out classics including 'Ain't Nobody', 'Power Of Love' and 'Jump', and were on the whole one of the most impressive groups of final contestants the show's ever seen.

A 'flash vote' commenced after everybody had had their turn, where the nation were given just minutes to vote for their favourite act. The person who received the least votes - in this case Shelley Smith - would automatically sing in Sunday night's sing for survival.

Ellie Goulding - in a rather revealing outfit - and the forever glamourous Cher took to the stage as special guests on Sunday night, before the first live elimination of the series took place.

It was revealed that Lorna Simpson would join Shelley in the bottom two, meaning that Sharon Osbourne was definitely going to lose one of her 'Overs' in week one.

By a vote of 2-1 - with Sharon refusing to choose who to send home - Lorna was sent packing after her shaky Saturday night performance of Whitney Houston's 'So Emotional', and her save-me song, Faith Hill's 'There You'll Be'.

Right decision? Honestly, either could have been sent home as neither stood out or seem to have that star quality a contestant needs to sell millions worldwide. Personally, I would've kept Lorna around for another few weeks.

Performance of the night: Kingsland Road

They just impressed from the moment they stepped foot on stage. I wasn't expecting much, but they certainly delivered and proved they have a great chance in the competition.

Overused quote of the night: "They're only (insert age here) years old!"

Semi-patronising and a little awkward when Louis protests his act Nicholas McDonald is 'only' 16 (he's 15). Gotta love Lou Lou.

Least impressive: Miss Dynamix

I think they just had a rough week and a bad song choice. It didn't show off their vocals and they looked awkward on stage at times.

Next week's show is themed 'Love & Heartbreak'. Katy Perry and Robin Thicke will perform on Sunday night before a second act is eliminated.
