Although it is unsweetened, it's still creamy and sweet to taste, so it makes for a lovely drink to take up to bed with you instead of cow's milk. Or if you really feel like sticking with tradition, you can have a glass with a vegan cookie!

Alpro Almond Unsweetened

I tend to enjoy a glass when I get in from work as I get cravings for sweet things at this time of day and I find this stops me reaching for the biscuit tin or a packet of crisps.

The thing I like most about this product is that it's only 13 calories per 100ml, so a small glass will only set you back around 39 calories compared to a glass of skimmed milk, which is about 83.

I am also a fan because it is approved on the Slimming World plan as part of your calcium source for the day- but because it is so low in calories you can have up to a litre of this stuff whereas the milk drinkers only get a few 100 mls. You can use it for your brews, on your cereal, in porridge, rice pudding or just drink it as it is- but it has a lot of uses too.

Something that I have been worried about since going vegan is my calcium intake- luckily every 100ml of this 120mg of calcium in it so a couple of 300ml glasses and you are well on your way to your recommended amount of 1000mg.

The vegan symbol is clearly marked on the side of the carton so you don't have to worry about looking at ingredients to check if it's suitable.

If you are lucky enough- you might find it on offer too- I regularly buy it at my local supermarket for a pound a carton- I did this last night in fact!

If you're not supplementing your B12 and getting it from different sources throughout the day- this gives you 15% of your RDA per 100ml too.

I continue to buy this product every fortnight when I go shopping because I like having something different to drink other than tea or squash so this makes a welcome change. A must have fridge staple for vegans, especially if you are watching your calorie intake. Or for those who are wanting to switch out their cow's milk for something healthier.
