The Bagel Factory is the first chain to add vegan cream cheese to its menu so that all vegan across the UK and Ireland can enjoy a bagel the way it was meant to be served- with lashings of the white stuff.

And here it is...

And here it is...

PETA has also awarded them the Proggy Award to acknowledge this innovative step.

Along with the vegan cream cheese you can enjoy a range of veggies on your bagel including avocado, tomatoes, and black olives, available for £4.29 (a bagel with vegan cream cheese only is £2.49) at all stores from 19 April.

"More and more consumers are seeking on-the-go vegan options", says PETA's vegan corporate projects manager, Dawn Carr. "By responding to the growing demand for plant-based fare, Bagel Factory is making it possible for the many people who can't – or won't – consume dairy foods to enjoy a good bagel with a creamy spread."

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that "animals are not ours to eat" – note that plant-based cheeses and milks don’t contain any of the artery-clogging animal fat and cholesterol that are present in dairy foods.

Such foods can often also contain traces of pus and bacteria from cows' infected udders. Vegans have lower rates of heart disease, strokes, diabetes, cancer, and obesity than meat-eaters do.
