Since turning vegan, I am always on the hunt for new snacks. As it was buy one get one half price in Holland and Barrett on Saturday I decide to take a gamble and pick up a NatureCrops Quinoa Bar Dark Chocolate and Almond.

It's admittedly a little pricey at £1.49, for a single snack bar but you can excuse that when it's on offer. The wrapper is very plain too, however it has a clear window on the right so you can see exactly what you're buying unlike some snack bars which are total a surprise when you crack into them.

My first thought was- would quinoa work as a sweet treat? I had read that it can be used as a porridge substitute so I figured it might taste ok. How wrong I was- it was one of the best vegan snacks I have ever eaten.

It was chewy and crispy with just enough sweetness. Such a consistency and flavour makes you feel like you're eating something far more indulgent than you are but at only 172 calories, this is a much better option than a piece of cake or a cookie.

Made with only organic ingredients and a generous 2.9 grams of protein per bar, it ticks a lot of the boxes in terms of what vegans look for in snacks- quality and nutritional value.

It gave me a well needed boost as I was walking around the shops in Keswick and I didn't feel so left out when we went for coffee and I was surrounded by an array of non-vegan cakes.

Would I buy it again? Yes! Any vegans who haven't tried a NatureCrops Quinoa Bar Dark Chocolate and Almond need to get themselves down to Holland and Barrett now- you don't know what you're missing!
