Donald Trump believes he could resolve the Ukraine war in 24 hours

The former US president has boldly claimed that he would be able to solve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine in just a single day if he returns to the White House in 2024.

Trump - who was ruled to have sexually abused magazine columnist E Jean Carroll at a New York department store in the 1990s by a jury in a civil case earlier this week - told CNN: "If I'm president, I will have that war settled in one day, 24 hours."

The controversial politician is prepared to meet Russian tyrant Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky to find a solution to the conflict.

Trump said: "They both have weaknesses and they both have strengths and within 24 hours that war will be settled. It'll be over, it'll be absolutely over."

The billionaire said that Putin had made a "mistake" invading Ukraine and it would not have happened if he was in office but refused to say if the Russian leader is a war criminal.

He told an audience in New Hampshire: "If you say he's a war criminal it's going to be a lot tougher to make a deal to make this thing stopped.

"If he's going to be a war criminal, people are going to grab him and execute him, he's going to fight a lot harder than he's fighting under the other circumstance.

"That's something to be discussed at a later day."

Trump also declined to say who he wants to win the war despite being asked the question on three occasions.

He said: "I don't think in terms of winning and losing. I think in terms of getting it settled so we stop killing all these people.

"Russians and Ukrainians, I want them to stop dying. And I'll have that done in 24 hours."
