Donald Trump has vowed to put his political rivals in prison

The former US president made the astonishing claim during an interview with right-wing broadcaster Glenn Beck where he was reminded of his 2016 campaign promise to put presidential rival Hillary Clinton in prison.

Beck asked Trump: "Do you regret not locking her up? And if you're president again, will you lock people up?"

The controversial politician replied: "Well, I'll give you an example... the answer is you have no choice because they're doing it to us."

Trump is facing four indictments and possible punishments that could land him in jail for hundreds of years but has once again claimed that he is the victim of a political witch hunt led by President Joe Biden.

He said: "I always had such great respect for the office of the president, the presidency.

"And I never hit Biden as hard as I could have. And then I heard he was trying to indict me and it was him that was doing it, you know.

"I don't think he's sharp enough to think about much but he was there, and he was probably the one giving the order."

Trump claimed that Biden and the Democratic Party were pulling the strings in the legal cases against him - including paying E. Jean Carroll, who accused the billionaire of sexually assaulting her in a New York department store in the 1990s.

Without providing evidence, Trump said: "The woman that I never met, that they accused me of rape, that's being run by a Democrat, a Democrat operative, and paid for by the Democrat party.

"You know, so many of these days, I have a couple of other lawsuits all funded against me by the Democrats. But these are sick people. These are evil people."
