Donald Trump insists court officials were in tears following his arrest

The former US president pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records after he was charged last week.

The billionaire businessman turned politician claimed court officials burst into tears whilst being processed.

He said: "They were incredible.

"When I went to the courthouse, which is also a prison in a sense, they signed me in and I'll tell you people were crying.

"People that work there. Professionally work there that have no problems putting in murderers and they see everybody.

"It's a tough, tough place and they were crying. They were actually crying. They said, 'I'm sorry.'"

The charges relate to a $130,000 hush payment made by lawyer Michael Cohen to adult film actress Stormy Daniels in the run up of the 2016 election to stop her talking about their affair in 2007.

Trump denied all allegations, insisting it is an attempt to derail his campaign trail.
