Colin Farrell Attends Private Funeral For Taylor

Colin Farrell joined members of Elizabeth Taylor's family at the movie icon's private funeral last week (24Mar11) after befriending the actress in her final year.
 
Many were puzzled to learn that the Irish actor was among the mourners - because few knew of his connection to the movie veteran, who died after a lengthy battle with ill health.
 
But Farrell reveals he and Taylor had become close in recent years, and he was delighted when family members asked him to recite a poem at the funeral.
 
He tells Access Hollywood, "It's the old story of boy meets girl, the boy pesters girl with too many phone calls at inappropriate hours of the night...
 
"I was just lucky enough to become her friend in the last year and a half. I adore her...still."
 
Taylor briefly spoke of her fondness for the Miami Vice star in a Harper's Bazaar interview conducted by Kim Kardashian earlier this year (11).
 
The actress said, "I love Johnny Depp, and I love Colin Farrell. They're both brilliant, nuanced actors with great range."
 
Farrell admits he was nervous when he stepped up to read Gerard Manley Hopkin's poem The Leaden Echo and the Golden Echo at Taylor's funeral on Thursday.
 
He adds, "Elizabeth chose it... Even in passing she had me under the thumb, sweating bricks."
