The 'Coronation Street' star looked on helplessly as her son David, now 19, was struggling to breathe with chest pains.

She said: "I thought he was going to die, it was terrifying. He was terribly scared. A part of you can't believe this is happening to your boy, a fit young man.

"As his mum, any crying or getting upset had to be done away from his room where he couldn't see it. All I could do was try to be positive and strong for him."

David was rushed to hospital and was later diagnosed with myopericarditis, an inflammation of the heart.

It provided more anguish for the 38-year-old actress, who lost her baby son Archie in 2009 when he was born prematurely.

She said: "I lost my baby son because he was born too early. I didn't want to lose another child.

"You feel so helpless when your child is going through something like this, you can only watch and be there for them."

Kym is now looking forward to the future alongside her fiancé Dan Hooper.

She told the Belfast Telegraph newspaper: "I'm very fortunate to have met Dan, he's a genuinely lovely person...

"He gets on well with my kids and so I'm lucky and happy and settled. I also feel appreciated, which is a good thing. We haven't been together a year yet so there are no wedding plans. We're just focusing on getting our home sorted.

"I'm in such a good place now, with a great family, beautiful children and a great job. It all helps me feel happy and relaxed, which I think I need to be with everything that's been going on."
