Selena Gomez claims she is criticised by "grown adults all the time."

The 22-year-old star says "it's hard" being bullied on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook by less accomplished strangers, but refuses "to let them win" by quitting social media.

The actress and singer told E! News: "I get picked on by grown adults all the time. It's grown-ups and I don't get it. It just baffles me. I wish I could just sit them down and say, 'What were you doing at 15? What were you doing at 18? What were you doing at 21?' Because I can guarantee you it's not half of what I've done.' "

She added: "Trust me, it's hard. I've had my moments where I've let them get to me but I refuse to let them win."

The brunette beauty, who has 23.7 million followers on Twitter and 64 million fans on Facebook, admits she might not always want to share her thoughts and photographs online.

She said: "Maybe when I'm older, but I think right now I want to be that person for those girls and for my fans.

"It's nice to be able to connect with my fans. I'm a part of it. I'm totally involved."

Selena formed a close bond with first-time director William H. Macy and his actress wife of 17-years Felicity Huffman on the set of her new movie, 'Rudderless,' and says they are "really refreshing."

She said: "They are not normal in this industry. I've been to their house. I've spent time with them and they just respect each other and they have this beautiful connection through their work...They don't really care about all the noise, which is really refreshing."
