Consuming green tead might make a difference in the battle against the Aids virus, British researchers disclosed yesterday.

The scientists discovered a compound in the tea that prevents the virus from banding to cells in the immune system.

Prof Mike Williamson of Sheffield University is quoted in the Mirror as saying:"It could reduce the risk of infection and help slow the spread of HIV."

However he also stated:"It is not a cure or safe way to avoid infection. It could be used to improve quality of life for those infected."

The Health Protection Agency commented that the total sum of those living in the UK with the virus has increased to around 63,500 adults, but 20,000 might not even be aware of it.

The World Health Organisation yesterday supported circumcision for heterosexual males in nations with big HIV rates after tests illustrated it could decrease infections by half.
