Expectant mothers who smoke will be able to discover the rate of carbon monoxide in their unborn child with an innovative monitoring gadget.

The Baby CO monitor will be placed in maternity wards around the country to be a motivation for ladies who smoke to cease harming their unborn tots.

The female blows into a tube which clocks up the carbon monoxide in her and her baby. The piece of equipment shows an immediate reading from green for "healthy" and red for "danger."

It was unveiled yesterday by Micro Medical in Kent. Martin Marsh, from the company is quoted by the Mirror as saying:"It is a vital tool to help pregnant smokers stop smoking."
