The virus has killed 10 people in the last six weeks

Swine flu this year is said to be more deadly than first predicted.

The virus has killed 10 people under the age of 65 in the past six weeks.

It's a virus that needs to be given some respect. People are probably dying because they don't want to bother their GP. But this delay can prove fatal

Experts said that they are surprised that the death toll is so high early on in the season.

Figures from the Health Protection Agency claim that the at least 10 young adults have been killed by swine flu since the beginning of November.

Most of the people killed have been pregnant or suffered from chronic illnesses, like asthma or diabetes. As these are the people more at risk, but some were generally healthy people.

Experts did predict that the virus would come back this year they are surprised by the effect it has had and how quickly it has spread.

Professor John Oxford, an expert in virology at St Bart and the London hospital, told the Daily Mail: “I'm surprised and feel ill at the ease that young people are dying.

“It's a virus that needs to be given some respect. People are probably dying because they don't want to bother their GP. But this delay can prove fatal, particularly amongst pregnant women.

“We're not at the panic stage yet but we certainly wouldn't want the situation to get any worse.”

Common symptoms for the virus include, fever, cough, headache and extreme fatigue.
