Top Five Tips To Beat Blue Monday

Top Five Tips To Beat Blue Monday

The memories of Christmas fun are almost behind us and January is beginning to feel a little less gloomy as the January sales and summer holiday planning lift us from our gloom.

However, according to psychologists, we may just be burying our heads back under the duvet very soon as January 24 – ‘Blue Monday’ is almost upon us.

According to an equation created a few years ago, ‘Blue Monday’, is officially the most depressing day of the year.

The day we should avoid evenings out, job interviews and anything that requires a productive and happy approach.

However, we won’t let a day bring us back to the depression of January 2.

We have a wealth of ideas designed to maintain your happy momentum and make ‘Blue Monday’ just another normal day. Here are our top five tips:

1. Do your bit for charity

According to researchers, giving money to charity officially makes us happier and even more popular – FACT.

On Blue Monday, the MicroLoan Foundation is asking individuals to make a contribution which goes directly to helping women in Malawi start businesses and fight their own way out of poverty.

And if your Christmas splurge is still at the back-of your mind, then give a penny. The Foundation is trying to beat a world record and raise 4,000,000 pennies to be sent to Africa.

2. Meet someone new

Making friends or finding dates has never been easier and what better way to lift the Monday Blues.

And if your shyness is getting the better of you then why not try a bit of online chatting first.

According to Zoosk, the world’s largest social dating community, most of us prefer to text, email, IM, or Twitter when meeting new people. If you’re not at your best this Monday then get online and start searching!

3. Go shopping

There are some amazing January sales on this month. Whether it’s a new blazer from Reiss, a sharp suit from Hugo Boss or the latest laptop from Dell, shopping is a sure fire solution to feeling down in the dumps.

4. Watch a new release – and indulge in the cinema snacks

Whether it’s Natalie Portman in Black Swan or Colin Firth in the Kings Speech that floats your boat, the New Year means a wealth of new film releases.

And what better than going to the cinema than the cinema snacks (if you’re on a January diet stick to the popcorn!).

Or maybe the thought of going out doesn’t appeal and if so, get your mates over, have a pyjama party and watch your favourite films.

5. Discover a new taste

Apparently seafood fights depression and protein boosts your happy hormones. So why not take this as an opportunity to discover a new taste - and the latest restaurant. Move away from the tuna and embrace the oysters, red snapper and sea whelks!
